Invisalign

Invisalign is a branded term for a type of nearly invisible prosthetic braces-like appliances designed to help shift teeth into their proper position.

Invisalign treatment is a multi-step process. First, an orthodontist or dentist takes a mold of the patient’s teeth. This in turn is used to create a digital tooth scan. The computerized model reveals current teeth spacing and can estimate desired teeth positions. Invisalign aligners are created for each stage of the repositioning process. Each invisalign aligner is worn for 20 hours a day for one to two weeks. Slowly, the teeth shift positions, with an alignment agreed upon between the dentist and patient.

Most Invisalign treatments take a little over a year, or about 13-14 months.

Benefits of Invisalign

The chief benefit of Invisalign treatment is their virtual invisibility. For active adults, traditional metal braces often come with aesthetic barriers. After all, who in their 20s, 30s, 40s or 50s, wants to have a mouth that has the look of a teenager?

With Invisalign:

  • get to keep eating your favorite foods and enjoy the same level of physical activity
  • You’ll be able to brush as you would normally – that means no difficulty working around braces or having to deal with wires that trap food and other particles.
  • You’ll enjoy the fact that no one knows you’re wearing them – except you!

What to Expect

After your initial set of aligners are created you will be scheduled for follow-up dental appointments every six to eight weeks to check on the re-alignment process. It’s natural to expect a little pain and discomfort as pressure is applied to facilitate the teeth shift. This is a normal reaction and should subside within the first few days of wearing. Make sure you rinse your aligners every night and to brush them with your toothbrush. Just as with natural teeth, brush gently.

Ask The Centers for Dental Implants’ staff about the Invisalign home cleaning system for additional support in the maintenance process.

The bottom line: whether you struggle with crowded teeth, an overbite, an underbite, crossbite (a tooth is closer to the cheek or the tongue), gaps between teeth, an open bite, or just generally want to straighten your teeth, Invisalign treatment might be the solution you’ve been looking for!
